AUBG’s Summer Academy offers intense academic courses that students will complete in the span of three weeks (June 3 - June 23; Classes begin on June 6). Students can choose from a variety of fields and can earn up to three academic credits while participating in a wide range of cultural experiences including trips to historic sites such as Plovdiv, Melnik, Rila Monastery, Seven Rila Lakes, Bansko, and more!
The program is perfect for visiting students who want to experience liberal arts education abroad, recent high school graduates looking for a fun and educational summer experience, or current AUBG students who need additional academic credits. Students will learn about the types of video games, how to develop successful game design, immersive mechanics, levels, loops and exciting game missions. At the end of the course, students will develop a concept for their own game, going through all the elements of the course. Cr. 3. (6 ECTS Cr.)
Embedded Systems eng. Ivan Nikolaev and eng. Dragomir Yanev
The course will focus on the essence of embedded systems (both theoretically and practically) with hands-on exercises and topical projects culminating with a main capstone project. The students participating in the course will work with an Arduino based development board, interfacing different sensors to an HMI (Human machine interface) via a wireless communication protocol (Bluetooth). Bulgarian Culture & Language Senem Konedareva, Ph.D.
The course will focus on in-depth Bulgarian Culture understanding and language instructions from the beginning to advanced levels of language acquisition. Students will explore different aspects of the Bulgarian cultural heritage and enhance their cultural and communicative competence. They will be invited to actively participate in the Cultural Trips organized within the framework and period of the summer program. Field trips and research trips are great opportunities to explore Bulgarian culture in its uniqueness and in real life; students will have the opportunity to practice what they learn in the classrooms, collect data supporting their research, experience the real ethnographic work of the culture under study and work on a class project. Social Entrepreneurship in Europe Evelina Van Mensel This is a collaborative, cross-institution course in social entrepreneurship, in which student teams ideate and develop models for social enterprises. Social entrepreneurship is the process of building new organizations that offer scalable solutions to social and environmental challenges. Social enterprise can be either for-profit, or non-profit, but key is the ambition to address societal problems at scale. The practice of social entrepreneurship explores the full suite of liberal learning: critical analysis, persuasive writing, oral communication, quantitative reasoning, design thinking, and group social dynamics. Digital Marketing Rossen Petkov With the rapid shift in consumer media habits from traditional media to online platforms, it is becoming increasingly important for communication, business, and marketing graduates to be well-versed in digital marketing fundamentals. For entrepreneurs and small businesses in particular, it may be possible to exclusively promote by using direct and digital marketing. In this course students will gain an understanding of how digital marketing strategy is designed and how the marketing mix is changing to reflect the needs of the digital world. While consumer personas and social media will be investigated, digital marketing encompasses a wide variety of tools and tactics, and the course will cover multiple forms of online interactions that assure excellent results in search-, permission-, content marketing approaches leading to effective customer engagement. Students will become familiar with the concept of planning a marketing campaign for different digital media and how to assess digital channel performance through a hands on online Digital MediaPRO business simulation.
